Class 16 Begins

Women who are excited, apprehensive, and committed will be in our center Monday morning, August 30, to begin their CWJC experience as Class # 16.

Each of these women is looking forward to the changes she’ll be able to make in her life through the knowledge she’ll receive and experiences she’ll have during the next 14 weeks of classes.

If you have any questions regarding donations, please contact Pam.

Class 15 Graduation

Graduation was an exciting event with 300 people attending to celebrate with our women. Each graduate was so proud of herself as she completed her short speech. Having our ceremony in the chapel at Truett Seminary makes our graduates feel very special.

The reception provided by Harris Creek Baptist Church provided plenty of cake, cookies, punch, and coffee for all.

Camp Hope at Calvary Baptist

We have an opportunity at the end of this month to provide a program at Calvary Baptist Church for the mothers of the children who will be attending their Bible Club. The program is called “Camp Hope.” The mothers will learn about God’s love through Bible study. They will also receive information to understand themselves and their children better as they learn new ways to have fun with their families. We will teach classes on personality traits, boundaries within a family, and understanding your child’s love language. This pilot program will be an avenue to hopefully help other churches work with the women in their communities.

For more information about Camp Hope contact Elaine George.

For more information about the Bible Clubs at Calvary Baptist Church visit their website.

New Journey Partner Coordinator

Vivian StidventWe are pleased to introduce our new volunteer Journey Partner Coordinator, Vivan Stidvent. Her position as a licensed counselor at MHMR provided extensive experience in working with women. She said she discovered that she wasn’t happy sitting around after her retirement and is excited to have the opportunity to work with women again. She’ll be a real asset in training and working with our journey partners and working with our women.

Thanks to Waco Foundation

Our gratitude goes to Waco Foundation for awarding us $15,000 in grant funds so that four of our graduates will have an 11-week internship at a business or non-profit in our community.

Update – November 30, 2009

Greetings CWJC Friends!

The holiday season is here, and CWJC has so many things for which we’re grateful. Baskets of Hope was a success with over 500 people attending. Our annual Thanksgiving dinner for graduates and volunteers, catered by Patti’s Kitchen, brought graduates from many classes including our very first class in 2004.

Please come join us as we celebrate the success of Class #14.

Reception following the ceremony

We have several women in this class who aren’t yet able to provide for their children at Christmas. If you would be willing to adopt one of our families, please let me know at 757-0416 or pam@cwjcwaco.org. They’re all women who have already made many positive changes in their lives and will continue to do so as they go out into the work force.

Applications are being accepted for the spring semester. Call the center, 757-0416, if you need an application to share with someone who could benefit from the CWJC program.

Thanks for helping us minister to women.

Update – September 28, 2009

Greetings CWJC Friends!

We had an exciting day at our center one day last week.  Julie Hays and her great photographer, Jim Peeler, spent some time with us shooting footage and interviewing some of our women for a story about CWJC that will air Monday, September 28, on the 10:00 news on KWTX. I hope you’ll join us in watching it.

We’re supplementing childcare costs for a couple of our single mothers who can’t cover the full amount of their childcare while they’re in classes.  Our childcare fund needs to be replenished.  If you can help, please contact Pam. pam@cwjcwaco.org

Update – September 11, 2009

Greetings CWJC Friends!

Not only do we have wonderful women in our class this semester, we also have 3 of our graduates volunteering their time to be computer lab assistants.

New Alumni Coordinator

We have 93 CWJC graduates, and that number will continue to grow. We have created a new volunteer position to help us keep in touch with these women. Betty Orler, a graduate herself, will be our Alumni Coordinator. Her responsibilities will include staying in contact with all our grads and planning activities for them, including service opportunities in the community.

Mentors are Now Journey Partners

Our mentoring program is taking on a new look. We’ve changed the name of the women who are serving as mentors to“Journey Partners.” This is a more appropriate term for them because they are truly partnering with our women as they are on this journey to make positive lifestyle changes in their lives. We welcome Sheryl Young as our new volunteer Journey Partners Coordinator.

Have you been to the website, www.cwjcwaco.org lately? Renee Van Treuren, our volunteer webmaster, is constantly adding new information. We even have a“blog”on the website now. Share your thoughts with us as we share ours with you.

Baskets of Hope, October 6

The event is less than 4 weeks away! If you haven’t made your reservations, now is the time. Tables are filling up quickly. If you didn’t receive an invitation, you can find all the information on the website and can even make your reservations there. We’ll be happy to mail you an invitation if you call and give us a mailing address. Renee will add your name to the sponsor list on the website when you sponsor a table. She also has a list on the Baskets of Hope page of some of the baskets that will be available. If you’re donating a basket, please get it to us as soon as possible. Thanks.

I hope you’re enjoying the rain as I am.
